Back in the Bronze Age, Colne in Pendle was an important settlement on the Trans-Pennine Ridgeway, a major trade route, although the oldest building in the current town merely dates back to the 12th century! Wander around this building, St Bartholomews Church which boasts beautiful stained glass windows, a 62ft tower and a north arcade that dates from the early 13th century. The churchyard once hosted the weekly farmers market, although these days this takes place at the New Market Hall. Shopaholics should also spend the day browsing the fantastic bargains at Boundary Mill Stores, a huge outlet for fashion and home brands with more than 200 shops including an M&S Outlet, French Connection, Jaeger, Lowe Alpine and Dartington. Colne is surrounded by spectacular, unspoilt countryside which you can explore on foot or bike. Boulsworth Hill is part of Pendle’s Three Peaks Trails, while the Pendle Way and Bronte Way also pass through the area
